This year is proving to be another banner year for TVCXpress. It has for the first half of 2014 actively supported and contributed to the biggest advertising events in the country – the Advertising Summit held last May 10 at the Subic Bay Freeport and more recently the Agency of the Year awards night, which happened on July 31 at the Rizal Ballroom of the Shangri-La Hotel Makati.

One of the brains behind TVCXpress Manila is J. Alfonso A. de Dios. He may be an advertising veteran but his ideas are anything but anchored in the past. He started his career in advertising at J. Walter Thompson as Media Group Head from 1989 to 1995.

He then joined P&G (Procter & Gamble) Philippines as its media and communications manager. In 2001, he gamely stepped out of his comfort zone

and accepted a post in P&G Guangzhou. He headed the company’s media operations in Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

During his stint in China he lost no time getting to work and changing the way the company managed its media operations. By enhancing P&G’s relationship with media and streamlining the work process he successfully brought down TV media costs by as much as 60%, generate hundreds of millions of cost savings and boost media values that have resulted to bigger and stronger brands.

“The desire to conquer crises and challenges essentially drove me to excel. The bigger the stage, the more driven I became to demonstrate that we Filipinos can make a meaningful difference in international communities.”

Bucking tradition is what Mr. de Dios does best. By 2009, he has put up Telos Media Works, Ltd. It is a marketing communications consultancy and learning lab for brands, media organizations and agencies based in Beijing, China. Determined to continue shaking things up, he set his sights on even bigger challenges by setting up TVCXpress Manila in the same year, which today is acknowledged by the advertising industry as a trusted partner not just in digital video content transmission but also data archiving and management.

The international standard for audio is -24 LKFS (Loudness, K-weighted relative to Full Scale). This loudness standard, designed to enable normalization of audio levels for delivery of broadcast TV and other video, is currently not being adhered to in the industry. The industry needs to achieve standardization in order to eliminate loudness inconsistencies which will in turn enhance the overall TVC listenability.  Contrary to what has been reported by other sources, the Philippine TV networks/stations are not driving this standardization. TVCXpress, in close collaboration with CAPG, Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA) and the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies (4As) has taken it upon itself to take the lead and drive standardization across the networks, for the industry’s benefit.

CAPG is now in the process of finalizing these standards internally. We will be updating the industry on the developments, so stay tuned.
